The play tells the story of a young writer who is trying to write a children’s theatre play in order to take part in a competition. He writes, tears pages up, cannot succeed, and in despair he falls asleep. Then his Good Fairy appears and promises to help him. She urges him to take his notebook and go to Benjamin Franklin Street, number 3.
"There you will find everything you need. If you need me, call me.... My name is Kali..."
Our writer goes to the address the Fairy suggests. To his surprise, he finds himself in a huge library. There, the young man will remember books he read as a child, but he will also discover new ones he does not know. From every book he opens, familiar and unfamiliar characters spring to life, and he makes them a proposal.
By the end of the first act, he has managed to take with him in his notes Little Red Riding Hood, the Lame Fox (from Aesop’s fables), Ebenezer Scrooge (from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol), Pinocchio from the tale of the same name, the Evil Queen (from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, the Emperor with No Clothes, Don Quixote, Baron Munchausen, Halima, Sleeping Beauty, and Puss in Boots.
In the second part, our writer consults his notes and tries to create a play featuring all these fairytale heroes.
Will he succeed??
