The official presentation of the program of the 38th Culture Festival of the Sainopouleio Foundation took place on Monday, June 23, 2025, in the afternoon, at the small theater
The presentation was delivered by the Mayor of Sparta and President of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Mr. Michalis Vakalopoulos, in the presence of the General Secretary and President of the Sparta Municipal Council, Mr. Stefanos Vrettakos, and the Foundation’s Treasurer, philologist and author, Mrs. Metaxia Papapostolou.
The Mayor of Sparta welcomed members of the press and invited guests, noting that the position of President of the Board of the Sainopouleio Foundation is for him a special honor, but also a great responsibility and a moral commitment, so that the Sainopouleio continues to move forward with absolute respect for the legacy of Georgios and Chrysavgi Sainopoulos. Referring to this year’s programme, he emphasized that it stands worthily alongside similar events throughout the country and expressed his warm thanks to all members of the Foundation who worked on its development, with special mention of Mrs. Metaxia Papapostolou. At the same time, he described the Sainopouleio Festival as the “flagship” of culture for the Municipality of Sparta.
Mrs. Papapostolou presented in detail the programme of events for the 38th Festival, making special reference to the excellent cooperation between the Municipality and the Foundation. She stressed that the goal is to host high-quality productions that combine entertainment with the meaningful cultural enrichment of the audience. For this reason, emphasis is placed both on the variety of events and—above all—on the inclusion of theatre performances that are otherwise absent from the region. As she noted characteristically, it is especially important for productions staged at Epidaurus to have the Sainopouleio as their next stop.
Mr. Vakalopoulos and Mrs. Papapostolou warmly thanked everyone who has consistently supported the Sainopouleio Foundation over time: the media, the rescue team, the Sparta branch of the Hellenic Red Cross, the volunteers, as well as all executives and staff members for their valuable contribution.
Special mention was made of Mr. Dimitris Vekrakos, whose contribution to last year’s edition was decisive. The Mayor of Sparta underlined that Dimitris Vekrakos and the Vekrakos family have left a strong social impact in Sparta for many years, through their ongoing social sensitivity and support. Expressing his gratitude, he presented him with an honorary plaque for his support of the Foundation, expressing the hope that his example would serve as an inspiration to all.
On his part, Mr. Vekrakos thanked Mr. Vakalopoulos, noting that it was the Mayor who provided the initial motivation for this initiative, and he expressed the wish that the Festival will continue to grow for the benefit of the city and its citizens.
